Josy Britton

About me

Since graduating from Waterloo University with an Honours BA in Fine Art, Josy has enjoyed a 30-year career. Her watercolours have hung in over 50 juried and group shows in regional and commercial galleries in Southwestern Ontario and in 15 solo exhibitions. Josy is a member of the The Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour and the Society of Canadian Artists.

Josy’s work has been published in International Artist’s Magazine in the Canadian Showcase for Master Painters of the World and as a Featured Artist in the Book, “100 Ways to Paint Favorite Subjects”. Her work was also published in Watercolor Magic Magazine as the 2005 Watermedia Showcase first prize recipient for landscapes.

Her most recent awards include the 2007 Paint Ontario Suncoast Consultants Purchase Award; 2nd place in the 2006 Paint Ontario, Lambton Heritage Musemum; and the 2005 Wittenhauer Award at the Open Water 80th Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour Annual Juried Exhibition, John B. Aird Gallery.

Josy is constantly inspired by miracles in nature and compelled to paint and share her eyes’ interpretation with others. While nature is the inspiration for Josy’s work, sunlight is the primary subject of her paintings. Josy paints sunlight’s effects on colour using only the primary colours. Her watercolour paintings are created using an original technique of dividing the paper’s surface into jewels of transparent colour that overlap to create more colour fragmentation. Josy is currently represented by Level Gallery, Collingwood, ON.

Josy will be displaying her work at the Lambton Heritage Museum during the studio tour.  She looks forward to your visit.
